Leaders Read#31

👋 Hello everyone,

Here are a couple of posts you might have missed:

📚 Book Summary:

This week's book is "So Good They Can't Ignore You" by Cal Newport.

This week's book debunks the notion that you are supposed to magically find your "dream" job. Instead, focus on how you can become better and an expert in your craft—someday, you might just find that passion sneaking up on you.

One of my favorite take away from the book is this:

"There's something liberating about the craftsman mindset: It asks you to leave behind self-centered concerns about whether your job is "just right" and instead put your head down and plug away at getting really damn good. No one owes you a great career, it argues; you need to earn it—and the process won't be easy."

✅ Actionable advice:

The easiest thing to do is to show up to work in the morning and respond to emails the whole day, but we can all agree that is not the best use of your time. With the craftsman mindset, you don't try to come up with some big, audacious plan. It's about becoming so good they can't ignore you by building the wall one brick at a time. Break your tasks into smaller, bite-size tasks. Then, start making little bets. It either succeeds or fails, but you get critical feedback to guide your next steps. This approach stands in contrast to the idea of choosing a bold plan and making one big bet on its success.
