👋 Hello everyone,
Here are a couple of posts you might have missed:
📚 Book Summary:
This week's book is "Work rules" by Laszlo Bock.
Read this book for some good insights from the former head of People Operations at Google. Laszlo shares principles from the company's processes regarding how to hire and get the most out of people.
One of my favorite take away from the book is this:
"What managers miss is that every time they give up a little control, it creates a wonderful opportunity for their team to step up while giving the manager herself more time for new challenges. Pick an area where your people are frustrated, and let them fix it. If there are constraints, limited time, or money, tell them what they are. Be transparent with your people and give them a voice in shaping your team or company. You'll be stunned by what they accomplish."
✅ Actionable advice:
As a new manager, you might think you must have all the answers. One of the best things you can do is stand in front of the team and say, "We have this problem; I'm not sure how to tackle it best; I could use your help." This does two things: It shows that you trust your people, and when you realize that they will come back with solutions you never thought about, you will always only hire people who are better than you.
