Leaders Read#5

👋 Hello everyone,

I just returned from a work trip to London. Two things interesting facts from the trip:

1)How come when I'm in London, I never eat British food? Always a great selection of Indian, Chinese, and Italian.

2) This picture I took on my way to the train station home—it really says it all.

📚 Book Summary:

This week's book is "Beyond Collaboration Overload" by Rob Cross.

You should read this book if you feel caught in a hamster wheel where everyone is throwing their tasks and problems on your plate. The book provides practical tools to rise above the craziness and set up some guardrails and processes to regain some order in your life.

One of my favorite take away from the book is this:

"Don't do anything alone. This way, you don't waste much time on an idea that doesn't go anywhere."

✅ Actionable advice:

Creating business groups is one of the best things I've done on my team. Our team has several different focus areas. Each focus area has two team members who act as business group leads for that specific area. The result is that all items get discussed, there is joint ownership, team members have influence—and I'm not doing anything important alone.

🧠 5 things I’m thinking about (October 20, 2023)

1.Thinking about team Objectives and Key Results for FY25.

2.Adjusting perceptions of hotel room size while in London.

3.In meetings—patience and "Disagree, but commit" can be a win.

4.It's beautiful when old friends reach out.

5.The interdependent links of the enterprise value chain.

Currently reading "Align: A leadership Blueprint" by J.Trevor

Thank you for your support, I'll see you next Sunday!

Read on,

Lars
